The Emperor's only reply was silence. His advisors knew what that meant — there was no need to discuss matters further. Jarod Swythe, First Lord of the Admiralty, stole a glance at the others around the room. They looked to him for guidance, or looked at the floor. Cowards, Jarod thought. This man will bring our Empire to its knees, and all they concern themselves with is their own necks.

The offer from the Arcturans was reasonable, and maintained the status quo, such as it was. At a time when the Empire was threatened on three sides, and the Imperial Starmada stretched to its limit, the Emperor surely couldn't have expected anything better, could he?

Jarod looked at his Emperor again. He thought he detected the slightest hint of a smile before the Imperial visage regained its traditional stoicism.

What's he got planned? thought Jarod. Well, there's only one way to find out …
